Sandpoint, Idaho | 45 Minutes from CDA

Schweitzer Mountain

Idaho's largest ski resort with 2,900 acres of terrain across 92 trails. Schweitzer gets an average of 300 inches of snow annually and offers something for every skill level, from beginner greens to expert bowls and glades.

The summit sits at 6,400 feet with views of Lake Pend Oreille, the Selkirk Mountains, and Canada. The resort has a full-service village at the base with lodging, dining, and amenities.

Why Go: Best overall terrain variety in the region. Great for families and expert skiers alike.

Good to Know: Can get crowded on weekends. Arrive early for parking.

Kellogg, Idaho | 45 Minutes from CDA

Silver Mountain Resort

Known for the longest run in Idaho and some of the best tree skiing in the Northwest. Silver Mountain has 1,600 acres of terrain with a unique gondola that takes you from downtown Kellogg straight to the mountain.

The resort gets deep snow and has excellent intermediate and advanced terrain. The backside offers more challenging runs and fewer crowds.

Why Go: Excellent tree skiing and a laid-back vibe. The gondola from town is convenient.

Good to Know: Weather can close the gondola. Check conditions before heading out.

Mullan, Idaho | 60 Minutes from CDA

Lookout Pass

Small, family-friendly resort on the Idaho-Montana border. Lookout Pass is known for affordable lift tickets, minimal crowds, and consistent powder. The resort has 540 acres with 34 trails and gets an average of 400 inches of snow annually.

Why Go: Best value in the region. Great for powder days without the crowds or high prices.

Good to Know: Smaller resort means fewer amenities, but that's part of the charm. Cash bar only.

Summer Note: Lookout Pass also operates the Route of the Hiawatha, a 15-mile rail-to-trail bike route with 10 tunnels and 7 trestles. It's one of the most popular bike trails in the Northwest and runs from May through September.

Mead, Washington | 75 Minutes from CDA

Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park

Washington's largest ski area with 1,425 acres and the most night skiing in the state. Mt. Spokane has varied terrain for all abilities and is a favorite for families and beginners.

The resort is owned by the state of Washington and has a community feel with affordable prices.

Why Go: Great for night skiing and beginners. Close to Spokane for après options.

Good to Know: Can be icy on warm days. Best after fresh snow.

Chewelah, Washington | 90 Minutes from CDA

49° North Mountain Resort

Northernmost resort in Washington with 2,325 acres of terrain. 49° North gets deep snow and has a mix of cruisers, glades, and steeps. The resort has a laid-back atmosphere with fewer crowds than the bigger resorts.

Why Go: Excellent snow quality and a low-key vibe. Good tree skiing and varied terrain.

Good to Know: Longest drive from CDA but worth it for powder days.
